Urtica dioica. This is a common plant native to the Pacific Northwest. It is best known for causing a painful and irritating skin reaction when touched! The leaves and stems are covered in fine hairs called trichomes that are filled with chemical compounds that are specifically designed to deter predators (including humans). Despite this, once the hairs have been broken off or "deactivated" this plant provides us with a myriad of health benefits both internally and externally! We like to use it topically for it's anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties.
